Roseville, California

Located in Placer County, California about 17 northeast of Sacramento, Roseville is part of the metropolitan area of Sacramento. Currently home to 112,343 residents, its population is expected to climb to over 133,000 by 2015. Roseville was first developed in the 1860s as a small freight and passenger railroad shipping point at the junction of the Central Pacific and California Central railroad lines. The town rapidly grew, continuing its dominance as a railroad center through the mid 20th century. Walking tours of historic Roseville are offered by the Carnegie Museum. The city's dependence on the railroad has declined, and now Roseville's economy is driven by a variety of businesses. Roseville has encouraged the development of large retail shopping centers and Auto Malls, and brings in over $4 billion in retail sales annually. Kaiser Permanente, Hewlett–Packard and NEC Electronics are some of the largest employers in the city. Natives of Roseville include actress Molly Ringwald, Olympic swimmer and gold medalist, Summer Sanders and U.S. Senator, John Ensign.
