Yaris Rank Worst For Numbers Of Injuries
A recent Insurance Study just concluded that you have a greater likelihood of suffering a personal injury if you are driving a Toyota Yaris that any other vehicle. According to statistics from the Highway Loss Data Institute personal injury claims were filed 28.5 times for every 1,000 Yaris insured.
Personal injuries include, but are not limited to broken bones, lacerations, head injuries, neck injuries, and facial contusions. Serious car crashes may lead to a wrongful death. If you have suffered a personal injury in an automobile accident involving a Yaris or any other type of motor vehicle, it’s important to seek the advice of a top Elk Grove car accident lawyer right away. By filing a claim, you may be able to recover compensation for your injuries including medical expenses, lost wages and emotional distress.
The second most dangerous vehicle – the Suzuki SX4, had 26.6 claims per 1,000 vehicles.
Other dangerous cars included:
- Chevrolet Aveo
- Mitsubishi Galant
- Kia Rio
- Nissan’s Versa and Sentra
- Hyundai Accent
- Dodge Avenger
The study concluded that – not surprising – cars with the highest number of personal injury claims tended to be small cars. An Institute representative noted:
“Personal injury claims data show something that crash test results can’t, and that’s the role that vehicle size plays.”
In response, Toyota commented that the Yaris was a 2012 “top safety pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
“Toyota is committed to achieving the highest standards for safety and is proud of its industry-leading 18 Toyota, Lexus and Scion models.”
An important part of this study though is that it reveals who is most likely to be injured in real crashes and that “in the real world if all else is equal, a larger, heavier vehicle does a better job protecting occupants than a smaller, lighter one.”
The Institute found that a number of larger vehicles scored well, including the Land Rover Range Rover, Chevrolet Corvette and Silverado, Lexus LX 570, Mercedes-Benz SL-class convertible, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford F-150, and Cadillac Escalade.
